Crushed Opal - Fire and Ice

The Romans called the Opal the "Queen of Gems" because it encompasses the colors of all other gems. The magical brilliance, stunning color changes, and unsurpassed vibrancy make Artisan Crushed Opal a perfect choice for all types of inlay work. Whether you’re making rings, pens, bottle stoppers, jewelry, or more - Artisan Crushed Opal is the perfect choice when you want to add a little pizzazz to your projects. Artisan Crushed Opal is a finer mesh size than that offered by other retailers. That means the flecks are small, making it easier to inlay in rings, accent grooves and other difficult-to-access areas.

Artisan Crushed Opal is a polymer impregnated synthetic Opal that’s created using gemstone synthesis technology to grow the Opal in a laboratory. This special year-long growing process eliminates the brittleness of natural Opal that can lead to cracking and yellowing. In addition, it creates a vertical growth pattern that produces perfect color vibrancy and a shimmering prism appearance that makes it superior, in many ways, to natural Opal.

For ring making, we can typically get 2-3 rings per 1 gram bag inlayed into a 2-piece ring core. In the above photos, the ring channel was painted black, with the exception of white and yellow, which were painted a matching color. This really helps the Opal pop even more with added contrast. Experiment with different background colors and see how it changes the look.
